The following video is an excellent introduction into the deeper truth that lies behind the New World Order (NWO). I find it encouraging that it is Alex Jones interviewing David Icke. David Icke has, to his great credit in my estimation, exposed the Israeli connection in relationship to this NWO. There aren’t many folks that are pursuing this Israeli connection because they generally get savagely attacked by pro-Zionist organizations like AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee), the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the Jewish Defense League (JDL), etc.

I have previously criticized Alex Jones for ignoring the Israeli connection to the NWO and the U.S. government, but in this show he acknowledges these facts as presented by David Icke. He does seem to go out of his way at the beginning of the program to say that he doesn’t know what David Icke is going to talk about, as if to somehow excuse his involvement in interviewing David Icke. Nonetheless, he seems to fully agree and acknowledge what Icke has to say regarding the Zionist Israeli issue. So I have to give him credit here for that.

This whole subject of disinformation is a very tricky business. The elite that are in control are exceptionally good at deception in many ways, so you really have to be on your toes when researching a subject. See CIA-Sponsored Trolls Monitor Internet & Interact With Users to Discredit Factual Information for starters.

You really have to be careful where you put your trust because there are many places, prominently placed on search engine results, that are there to “debunk” the truth for you. While the truth can’t really be debunked, they make a good try at it. These sites can be well funded and provide convincing arguments against the truth. They seem to tend to do this in a way that, if you’re not watching carefully, can make you feel foolish for believing whatever it is that you are investigating. They will also provide true information as well so the site looks legit until you investigate a bit more closely. If you use the Snopes.com website to vet information, see the article below.

Similarly, there are sites that sound like they’re going to talk about what you’re interested in, and they do, only they tell you a fabricated or misleading story, craftily bending the details to suit their ends. In fact, mainstream media is quite adept at this. From my perspective, I have to carefully pick and choose only very specific parts of mainstream media articles because (with occasional exceptions) they produce highly biased, government and corporate approved, “news”. Propaganda is closer to the truth of it.

There are also other sites that appear to provide alternative news, and they actually do so, but they also produce propaganda along with this already discovered news. Assuming the latest information regarding the VeteransToday.com website is true, and I’m gathering from numerous sources that it is true, the main man there, Gordon Duff, admitted in a video interview that about 40% of the content on the website is knowingly and intentionally not true. The video has been removed from YouTube for copyright issues, and Duff has since denied that he said it, and/or that it was actually the Israeli Mossad that modified the video! This does not ring true for numerous reasons if you do the research.

There are other sites that seem to only report the truth, and may perhaps even break new stories, but they steer clear of the real issues with Israel. There are two persons where I (and others) find this to be true: Alex Jones (infowars.com prisonplanet.tv) and Jesse Ventura. There are probably others. I can only speculate as to the reason that they steer clear of outing Israel for what it is. Maybe they have been threatened or bribed, or maybe they’re really working for the “other side”. I really don’t know, but I do know that something is gigantically wrong when Israel is not shown to be what it is – a terrorist state that is essentially in control of the U.S. government.

As I point out in my main page for Israel, Israel has invaded the U.S. government like a virus, to the point of being in complete control of U.S. foreign policy, and it is, with rare exception, the gatekeeper for every President, Senator and Representative and most likely, the heads of other agencies like the CIA – see this. In other words, if the Israeli lobby group of AIPAC and the JDL and Anti-Defamation League watchdog groups don’t like you, you will not be elected. Period. And if you say anything against Israel, they won’t like you, they’ll brand you as anti-Semitic, and they’ll work to destroy you, and they’re damn good at doing just that. I’m sure there are exceptions to this rule, but this is, without exaggeration, the rule accepted by almost every politician. For this reason, almost every person that is in congress, is by necessity, in league with these Israeli groups, and these groups don’t give a shit about what’s good for America. Those groups, along with many, many very high ranking self-professed Zionist government officials, are there to make sure that anything and everything that happens in the American government is, first and foremost, to the direct benefit of Israel. This is why the American government continues to vote, time after time, against the interests of America, and for the interests of Israel. Insanity. It’s just like a virus or a cancer that has invaded a body.

There are websites that do go against Israel, which I still find to be suspect. David Icke’s site falls into this category. I can’t say for sure whether his website is legit or not. I like quite a bit of what he has to say, and find some of his messages to be downright inspiring. On the other hand, his beliefs regarding what’s actually going on are so far out that it sounds ridiculous; this detracts from the overall believability of his messages. However, I also have to say, I’ve seen many things that initially sound completely crazy, that I eventually discover to be true. So I have to admit that he may be correct, I really don’t know. He may present completely legitimate information, and those in power are using his site (or any and every alternative news site) to gather names and information of people that are interested in following this type of information. Tracking the names of the believers, the people that actually know the truth. David may or may not be in on such an effort. As I said before, I really don’t know, but I feel that caution is warranted. As you’ll see, on this site and others, Big Brother IS listening, looking, recording, researching, harassing, arresting, detaining, torturing, maiming, murdering…

Is Snopes A Disinformation Operation?
4-3-12

For those of you that put your trust in Snopes…

Many of the emails that have been sent or forwarded that had any anti Obama in it were negated by Snopes. I thought that was odd. Check this out.

Snopes, Soros and the Supreme Court’s Kagan.   We-l-l-l-l now, I guess the time has come to check out Snopes! You don’t suppose it might not be a good time to take a second look at some of the stuff that got kicked in the ditch by Snopes, do you?

We’ve known that it was owned by a lefty couple but hadn’t known it to be financed by Soros!

Snopes is heavily financed by George Soros, a big time supporter of Obama! In our Search for the truth department, we find what I have suspected on many occasions.

I went to Snopes to check something about the dockets of the new Supreme Court Justice. Elena Kagan, who Obama appointed, and Snopes said the email was false and there were no such dockets. So I Googled the Supreme Court, typed in Obama-Kagan, and guess what? Yep, you got it; Snopes Lied! Everyone of those dockets are there.

So Here is what I wrote to Snopes:

Referencing the article about Elana Kagan and Barak Obama dockets:

The information you have posted stating that there were no such cases as claimed and the examples you gave are blatantly false. I went directly to the Supreme Courts website, typed in Obama Kagan and immediately came up with all of the dockets that the article made reference to. I have long suspected that you really slant things but this was really shocking. Thank You. I hope you will be much more truthful in the future, but I doubt it.

That being said, Ill bet you didn’t know this.

Kagan was representing Obama in all the petitions to prove his citizenship. Now she may help rule on them. Folks, this is really ugly.

Chicago Politics and the beat goes on and on and on. Once again the US Senate sold us out!

Now we know why Obama nominated Elana Kagan for the Supreme Court. Pull up the Supreme Courts website, go to the docket and search for Obama. She was the Solicitor General for all the suits against him filed with the Supreme Court to show proof of natural born citizenship. He owed her big time. All of the requests were denied of course. They were never heard. It just keeps getting deeper and deeper, doesn’t it? The American people mean nothing any longer. It’s all about payback time for those who compromised themselves to elect someone who really has no true right to even be there.

Here are some websites of the Supreme Court Docket: You can look up some of these hearings and guess what?

Elana Kagan is the attorney representing Obama!

Check out these examples:

Hamas is a Creation of Mossad

by Hassane Zerouky

Thanks to the Mossad, Israel’s “Institute for Intelligence and Special Tasks”, the Hamas was allowed to reinforce its presence in the occupied territories. Meanwhile, Arafat’s Fatah Movement for National Liberation as well as the Palestinian Left were subjected to the most brutal form of repression and intimidation

Let us not forget that it was Israel, which in fact created Hamas. According to Zeev Sternell, historian at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, “Israel thought that it was a smart ploy to push the Islamists against the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO)”.

Ahmed Yassin, the spiritual leader of the Islamist movement in Palestine, returning from Cairo in the seventies, established an Islamic charity association. Prime Minister Golda Meir, saw this as a an opportunity to counterbalance the rise of Arafat’s Fatah movement. .According to the Israeli weekly Koteret Rashit (October 1987), “The Islamic associations as well as the university had been supported and encouraged by the Israeli military authority” in charge of the (civilian) administration of the West Bank and Gaza. “They [the Islamic associations and the university] were authorized to receive money payments from abroad.”

The Islamists set up orphanages and health clinics, as well as a network of schools, workshops which created employment for women as well as system of financial aid to the poor. And in 1978, they created an “Islamic University” in Gaza. “The military authority was convinced that these activities would weaken both the PLO and the leftist organizations in Gaza.” At the end of 1992, there were six hundred mosques in Gaza. Thanks to Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad (Israel’s Institute for Intelligence and Special Tasks) , the Islamists were allowed to reinforce their presence in the occupied territories. Meanwhile, the members of Fatah (Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine) and the Palestinian Left were subjected to the most brutal form of repression.

In 1984, Ahmed Yassin was arrested and condemned to twelve years in prison, after the discovery of a hidden arms cache. But one year later, he was set free and resumed his activities. And when the Intifada (‘uprising’) began, in October 1987, which took the Islamists by surprise, Sheik Yassin responded by creating the Hamas (The Islamic Resistance Movement): “God is our beginning, the prophet our model, the Koran our constitution”, proclaims article 7 of the charter of the organization.

Ahmed Yassin was in prison when, the Oslo accords (Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government) were signed in September 1993. The Hamas had rejected Oslo outright. But at that time, 70% of Palestinians had condemned the attacks on Israeli civilians. Yassin did everything in his power to undermine the Oslo accords. Even prior to Prime Minister Rabin’s death, he had the support of the Israeli government. The latter was very reluctant to implement the peace agreement.

The Hamas then launched a carefully timed campaign of attacks against civilians, one day before the meeting between Palestinian and Israeli negotiators, regarding the formal recognition of Israel by the National Palestinian Council. These events were largely instrumental in the formation of a Right wing Israeli government following the May 1996 elections.

Quite unexpectedly, Prime Minister Netanyahu ordered Sheik Ahmed Yassin to be released from prison (“on humanitarian grounds”) where he was serving a life sentence. Meanwhile, Netanyahu, together with President Bill Clinton, was putting pressure on Arafat to control the Hamas. In fact, Netanyahu knew that he could rely, once more, on the Islamists to sabotage the Oslo accords. Worse still: after having expelled Yassin to Jordan, Prime Minister Netanyahu allowed him to return to Gaza, where he was welcomed triumphantly as a hero in October 1997.

Arafat was helpless in the face of these events. Moreover, because he had supported Saddam Hussein during the1991 Gulf war, (while the Hamas had cautiously abstained from taking sides), the Gulf states decided to cut off their financing of the Palestinian Authority. Meanwhile, between February and April 1998, Sheik Ahmad Yassin was able to raise several hundred million dollars, from those same countries. The the budget of The Hamas was said to be greater than that of the Palestinian Authority. These new sources of funding enabled the Islamists to effectively pursue their various charitable activities. It is estimated that one Palestinian out of three is the recipient of financial aid from the Hamas. And in this regard, Israel has done nothing to curb the inflow of money into the occupied territories.

The Hamas had built its strength through its various acts of sabotage of the peace process, in a way which was compatible with the interests of the Israeli government. In turn, the latter sought in a number of ways, to prevent the application of the Oslo accords. In other words, Hamas was fulfilling the functions for which it was originally created: to prevent the creation of a Palestinian State. And in this regard, Hamas and Ariel Sharon, see eye to eye; they are exactly on the same wave length.

Is Tony Kushner The New Helen Thomas?

Posted by Danny Schechter on May 12, 2011

Playwright Tony Kushner. Photos: Timothy Herrigan/Courtney Hamilton (CC)

Jewish Playwright has honorary degree restored by City University of New York after it had been stripped because he was labeled too critical of Israel.

First, it was Helen Thomas.

After the veteran White House correspondent spoke inelegantly once about her feelings about Israel—and apologized, but to no effect—she was blackballed at the instigation of strident Israeli supporters and her career achievement-standing journalism awards were stripped. She became persona non-grate with many media outlets joining in the denunciations of a colleague they honored for decades.

Many at the time suspected the wrath was especially severe because she is an Arab-American. Right-wing provocateur Ann Coulter even asked if “that Arab” should be allowed near the President.

Now a new flap driven by some of the same issues involves a Jewish Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and a leading academic institution in New York.

His name, Tony Kushner, best known for the brilliant Angels in America plays that bravely took on AIDS and the hypocrisy, if not criminality, of a the prominent Jewish lawyer Roy Cohen who was an aide to the late fanatically anti-communist symbol, Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Now McCarthy’s name has been introduced into a debate following a decision by a City University of New York to strip Kushner of an honorary degree after one conservative pro-Israel trustee took umbrage at his criticisms of the Israeli government and convinced his colleagues to take action.

Supporters of Israel have been primed by their lobby and the Israeli government to confront and all attempts to “ deligitimate” Israel and even criticize its government.

Kushner became the symbol of those closet anti-Semites or self-hating Jews bashing Israel, so a group of trustees turned him into an Israel hater. He became a new Helen Thomas even though he is Jewish.

But in New York, unlike Washington which seems ruled by a conservative media elite that is frequently intimidated, if not directed by the Israel Lobby, there was a cultural push back against what was seen as an act of intolerance that violated freedom of thought.

Soon the New York Times was making it a big story with strong statements against the efforts of conservative Republican trustee Jeffrey S.
Wiesenfeld, to blackball plans to honor Kushner by
John Jay College, one of the system’s schools. Wiesenfeld did not win much sympathy when he was quoted as questioning whether Palestinians were human.

Blogger MJ Rosenberg offered insight into Wissenfeld’s didactic views:

“Here is his Wiesenfeld’s rationale for his actions, which he offered in a telephone call with the Atlantic’s Jeff Goldberg:

“My mother would call Tony Kushner a kapo,” he said in a telephone conversation earlier this morning. “Kapos” were Jews who worked for the Germans in concentration camps.

Pretty amazing likening criticizing Israel to working with the Nazis to kill Jews. But Wisenfeld, has some strong views.”  He was also aligned with Pam Geller, the Muslim hater who led the fight against the so-called Ground Zero mosque. He was an active supporter of AIPAC, the Israel lobby.

His diatribe was seen as too severe and inflammatory by many civic leaders. Prominent supporters of Israel were soon supporting Kushner, including former Mayor Ed Koch, newspaper Publisher Mort Zuckerman and a who’s who of cultural figures.

Enter the top officials at the City University who agreed to review the decision and vowed to reverse it. On May 9th, they did so, voting unanimously to restore the award.”

The Guardian reported:

“The chancellor, Matthew Goldstein, addressing the board on Monday night, said he had supported the original recommendation of the award and praised Kushner’s ‘extraordinary body of work’. He urged the board to overturn last week’s decision and to support the award.”

Some members of the board spoke, all of them voicing support for Kushner. One of them described the row as a “blemish” on the university’s reputation as an upholder of freedom of expression.

Tony Kushner had told the Times,

“I have been honored many times by prominent Jewish organizations, proudly identified as a Jew and maintained a passionate support for the continuous existence of the State of Israel,” he said in an interview on Thursday. “An apology should come from the Board of Trustees for not following the dictates of simple fairness and decency when this happened, and allowing someone who deserved better treatment to be treated shabbily.”

Since the CUNY board’s action, he has received an outpouring of support from peace groups, friends, and intellectual and artistic groups. “It’s completely overwhelming,” he said.

The City University’s leaders rushed to restore its honor and on Monday Night, May 9th, reversed the Trustee’s decision, reinstating Kushner’s award.

Here’s how the Times put it:

“Having embarrassed themselves more than was absolutely necessary in the eyes of many New Yorkers, trustees of the City University of New York are … to undo the damage.”

In an earlier statement, Kushner, who has edited a collection of essays critical of Israel said:

“It’s been my experience that truth eventually triumphs over SoundBits spin and defamation, and that reason, honest inquiry, and courage, which are more appealing and more persuasive than demagoguery, will carry the day.”

His story went from the Jewish press to the pages of the New York Times, and quickly became an international free speech issue.

But even if his status is rehabilitated, The Times asks, “Will a reversal end the affair? Not necessarily. Closing a self-inflicted wound can be tough.”

The problem, of course, is that Kushner’s status earned him reconsideration; other less well-known personages critical of Israel, including academic and political analysts, are often targeted in ways that generate less attention and debate. Many conclude it’s just not worth it to speak up about Israeli policy less they became targeted and smeared, and even lose their jobs.

Meanwhile, Helen Thomas continues to live defensively as an exile in the straitlaced Washington Media world in which she was once a luminary.  A group of journalists are now lobbying The Society of Professional Journalists to reinstate her status but, at age 90, she has no major newspapers or high-profile politically-acceptable people behind her.

Perhaps Tony Kushner could do a play about how Thomas has suffered the slings and arrows of unfair slurs and demonization.

DC’s most experienced journalist says Obama lost credibility when he dodged question on Israeli nukes

Watch full multipart Helen Thomas on Washington

Precis

In part one of his interview with Helen Thomas, longest-serving member of the White House Press Corps, Paul Jay asks her about her first question for President Obama. The question, asking President Obama to name all the countries in the Middle-East that have nuclear weapons, was avoided by the President, who claimed to not want to “speculate”. Thomas claims that knowledge of Israeli nukes is very public in DC and Obama’s answer shows a lack of credibility. She explains the importance of this question for U.S. policy in the region. Finally, she confides that she has not been called on by the President since that day, but that if she does, she will ask him whether or not he has found any more information about nukes in the Middle-East since their last encounter.

Bio

Helen Thomas is an American news reporter, member of the White House Press Corps and author She was the first female officer of the National Press Club and the first female member and president of the White House Correspondents Association. Her latest book, co-authored with Craig Crawford is Listen Up, Mr President: Everything you Always Wanted Your President To Know and Do.

Transcript

PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: Welcome back The Real News Network. I’m Paul Jay at our studio in Washington, DC. Our special guest today is Helen Thomas. Helen Thomas has been a member of the White House press corps for over 58 years. She’s covered every president since John F. Kennedy. She was the first member of the. [...] She was the first female officer of the National Press Club, first female member and president of the White House Correspondents Association, and in 1975 she was the first female member and later became the president of the Gridiron Club. She’s written five books. Her latest, with co-author Craig Crawford, is Listen up, Mr. President: Everything You Always Wanted to Know Your President to Know and Do. [...] Listen up, Mr. President: Everything You Always Wanted Your President to Know and Do. So you’ve been telling presidents what to do for, like, a long time.

HELEN THOMAS, WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS, HEARST NEWSPAPERS: They don’t take my advice.

JAY: Well, here’s an example. President Obama. First of all, welcome.

THOMAS: Thank you.

JAY: Thanks for joining us. So President Obama had his inaugural Helen Thomas question at his first press conference. And here’s a little clip we’re going to play from the press conference. [...] You asked the question. He avoids it, ducks. And then the microphone’s there, and you’re about to say, yeah, but what about an answer, and they take the mic away.

THOMAS: That’s correct.

JAY: So President Obama really never answered your question about nuclear weapons in the Middle East, and obviously you were asking.

THOMAS: It would be pitiful if we took his answer truthfully, because he said, “I didn’t want to speculate.” Well, the president is not supposed to speculate as to who has nuclear arms or not. He’s supposed to know.

JAY: Well, obviously, we know he knows, and it’sthis is this great “we know, and he knows we know we know.”

THOMAS: I was testing his credibility.

JAY: So that’s theit’s actually quite a profound question, because it goes to the whole US policy in the Middle East. Not only does the US have a kind of a double standard on nuclear weapons when it comes to Iran and such, but what do you make of Obama’s whole Middle East policy? Is there a break with Bush here or not?

THOMAS: Too one-sided in favor of Israel. Ignores all the horrors that have happened to Palestinianstheir country’s taken away, thousands imprisoned for many, many years. We give them arms, we give the aid to Israel, as it continues to occupy and just treat the Palestinians like they’re newcomersand these are Europeans who come there who have no ties to Israel, to Palestine.

JAY: When President Obama was elected and was first discussing foreign policy, there was a suggestion from him there would be a new approach to the Middle East. He made his speech in Cairo. He suggestednot suggested. He said that Israel should stop any settlement expansion. What’s happened since all of that?

THOMAS: He took the easy way out, which is to go along with Israel, which most countries do. They have the power, propaganda, and everything else to sell their point of view. Palestinians have no voice.

JAY: So in terms of understandingwhat President Obama’s done is nothing new. This has been the White House approach for a long time.

THOMAS: Well, he was accused of being a Muslim, which is, you know, the worst thing that can happen to you, apparently. And I think he was afraid of that kind of tie.

JAY: But you’ve been covering the White House, as we said, for, like, 58 years. Is theretalk about the whole history of the US approach to Israel and the Palestinian conflict.

THOMAS: I think that we hadwhen Israel was created and they declared themselves in 1948, I mean, Truman went along. They knocked on his door at three o’clock in the morning. He did the unheard-of thing to get out and recognize the state of Israeland while we were still debating the whole situation at the UN. Left our own representatives high and dry. Well, every president has been confronted with that. Eisenhower tried to be a little bit more evenhanded. Nixon sent a man, an envoy, to the Middle East as soon as he took office. It was former governor Bill Scranton. And he came back after a fact-finding trip for about one month. He told President Nixon we should be evenhanded in the Middle East. Zionists went out of their mind, saying, what do you mean evenhanded? It’s like I’m telling you, why don’t you try to be fair? That report has gathered that much dust [inaudible] but it never saw the real light of day. And every president has been confronted with this issue. And it is an issue. People have the right to defend their own country. Two thousand years.

JAY: Now, Jimmy Carter, in the last few years, has actuallyhe was, I guess, the first person at that level to actually acknowledge Israel has nuclear weapons. He visited Gaza, he’s talked to Hamas, and he’s been saying there should be negotiation.

THOMAS: Hamas won the election. But if you read the news stories, they will say, oh, the Hamas took over Gaza, without ever saying it won an election. And former President Bush said that we would observe democratic elections. As soon as the Hamas won in Gaza, they shut down all aid, closed the doors, and so forth.

JAY: But did Carterin terms of his policy towards Israel and Palestine, was he any different than all the other American presidents? When Carter was in power?

THOMAS: Yes. He got the first accord in the Camp David Accords, and Begin promised him a lot of things, a letter that will acquiesce to concessions. Never got the letter.

JAY: So President Obama comes to power with what seems like intent to do something different. What are the forces at play here? ‘Cause we’re winding up, as far asI mean, you’ve said, and it seems rather obvious, that it’s the same policies we’ve always seen.

THOMAS: That’s right. I think American politics, pro-Israel. If you take a vote in Congress, maybe you might get five people vote against any further aid to Israel as it continues its occupation. That’s about it. They controlthey have fast power.

JAY: Who’s “they”?

THOMAS: The Zionists.

JAY: And Obama went to AIPAC, the main lobby organization of the kind of right wing of the pro-Israel lobby, when he was running for president, and he said to AIPAC more or less what they wanted to hear, with the exception maybe of the no expansion of settlements. So he’s actually following through on what he campaigned on. He’s never really suggested a different policy, has he?

THOMAS: No, not really. He’s following through, that’s true. I don’t think he’s ever made any real commitments to the Palestinians.

JAY: In terms of what you understand about the inner workings of the White House and how decisions are made, are there any forces behind the scenes at play here to try to put pressure on Israel to have a different kind of policy? Or have they kind of given up on it?

THOMAS: I think President Obama gave up totally, early on. I don’t think even tried. He realized he’s going up against a stone wall. Why take that on when he has so many other problems?

JAY: So do you think that’s it for his administration in terms of the policy towards the Middle East?

THOMAS: I think he’d just as soon forget it if he could. But more and more I think you can never escape the Middle East problem, as no modern president has been able to. At some point it’ll come back to him.

JAY: At the next press conference with President Obama, assuming he calls on youI don’t know if he liked your first question very much.

THOMAS: I’m sure he didn’t.

JAY: What do you want to ask him?

THOMAS: I want to ask him if he ever found out whether anyone in the Middle East has nuclear weapons.

JAY: Well, we’ll see if you ever get a chance to ask that again.

THOMAS: I doubt it.

JAY: Thanks for joining us. And thank you for joining us on The Real News Network. This is the beginning of a series of interviews with Helen Thomas, but they’ll be kind of interspersed, not one right after the other. We’ll let you know when the next one is.

SPJ Retires Helen Thomas Award

Monday, Jan 17, 2011

The Helen Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award won’t even last as long as its namesake’s lifetime.

The Society of Professional Journalists, which has given out the award since 2000, decided Friday to retire the award following complaints about it after Thomas‘ remarks last year regarding Jews in Palestine.

The SPJ decided not to rename the award or take the columnist’s name off of it, but rather to send it into retirement.

That’s not where Thomas is headed, however. The 90-year-old veteran newswoman recently began writing a column again — this time for the Falls Church News-Press. Upon announcing Thomas’ return to print, News-Press founder, owner and editor Nicholas Benton said he was “honored” to give Thomas “the proverbial ‘second chance’.”

“She is progressive, and following my more than eight hours of direct, one-on-one talks with her since the events of last June, I remain firmly convinced that she is neither bigoted, nor racist, nor anti-Semitic,” Benton wrote. “Her remarks in June were in response to a question about Israel, not Jews, and were intended to mean that in these times, Jewish people are free to live wherever they wish, because the era of anti-Jewish persecution is ended. That was not adequately expressed because of the impromptu nature of the incident.”

Many who complained to the SPJ didn’t see things the same way.

“This episode was a sad final chapter to an otherwise illustrious career as a trailblazer for women and minorities in journalism,” wrote Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “Unlike her first off-the-cuff remarks into a camera, Thomas’ comments were carefully thought out and reveal a person who is deeply infected with anti-Semitism.”

The SPJ said that it believes Thomas has the right to free speech, no matter if it is considered to be unpopular, vile or is considered offensive. But the SPJ said the controversy has overshadowed the reason the award exists — for a lifetime of contribution and service to the journalism profession.

“No individual worthy of such honor should have to face this controversy,” the SPJ said on its website. “No honoree should have to decide if the possible backlash is worth being recognized for his or her contribution to journalism.”

What I have to say is that this is the standard response to criticism of Israeli government policy: attack the person as racist, anti-Semitic. It is obvious that she is criticizing Israeli policy, not Jewish people, but Foxman equates criticizing Israeli policy with anti-Semitism. I say horseshit. This is not true, he knows it, and so does anyone else with half a brain cell that’s paying attention, but everyone is afraid to actually say it. Foxman WANTS this to be true, and he knows that if he keeps repeating this mantra, some people will actually come to fear and accept this nonsense. By the way, and just to be clear about this, Helen Thomas is a Palestinian, she IS A SEMITE. Palestinians ARE SEMITES. This is a perfect and often used example of complete and utter bullying propaganda by a dishonest and mean-spirited Zionist spokesperson. What a jerk.

The Society of Professional Journalists are chickenshits for removing the Helen Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award. They don’t have the courage to stand up for the truth like Helen did. History will show that taking this away from her was a mean and cowardly act. They don’t deserve the honor of keeping any award in Helen Thomas’ name. Helen was a true hero throughout her entire career as a journalist, especially in the last exchange where speaking the truth got her fired.

US Journalist Helen Thomas: “I’m not anti-Jewish, I’m anti-Zionist”

author Saturday March 19, 2011 16:31author by Saed Bannoura – IMEMC News Report post

Former White House correspondent Helen Thomas, 89, who was fired last year after making controversial comments about Israel, told Playboy magazine in a feature interview that her comments were misinterpreted by the media, but that she stood by her critique of Israel.

Playboy contributing editor David Hochman interviewed Thomas in her Washington DC home for a full-length feature in Playboy magazine, giving Thomas a chance to explain herself. Her career of over 50 years as a White House correspondent came to an abrupt end last May when Rabbi David Nesenoff approached Thomas with a camcorder outside the White House and asked her what she thought of Israel. Thomas responded “I think they should get the hell out of Palestine.”

When asked, in a followup question, where she thought they should go, Thomas said that they should go home to Poland, Germany and the other countries where they came from. In the Playboy interview, she explained the statement, “ What I meant was they should stay where they are because they’re not being persecuted—not since World War II, not since 1945. If they were, we sure would hear about it. Instead, they initiated the Jackson-Vanik law, which said the U.S. would not trade with Russia unless it allowed unlimited Jewish emigration. But it was not immigration to the United States, which would have been fine with me. It was to go to Palestine and uproot these people, throw them out of their homes, which they have done through several wars. That’s not fair. I want people to understand why the Palestinians are upset. They are incarcerated and living in an open prison.”

Hochman asked Thomas if she knew how controversial her statements were, she said that she was “going for broke”, because she was fed up with how the Palestinians had been treated for decades. She said, “Sure, the Israelis have a right to exist—but where they were born, not to come and take someone else’s home. I’ve had it up to here with the violations against the Palestinians.”

In response to a question about Palestinian violence and suicide bombings, Thomas told Hochman, “Of course I don’t condone any violence against anyone. But who wouldn’t fight for their country? What would any American do if their land was being taken? Remember Pearl Harbor. The Palestinian violence is to protect what little remains of Palestine. The suicide bombers act out of despair and desperation. Three generations of Palestinians have been forced out of their homes—by Israelis—and into refugee camps. And the Israelis are still bulldozing Palestinians’ homes in East Jerusalem. Remember, Menachem Begin invented terrorism as his MO—and bragged about it in his first book. That’s how Israel was created, aided and abetted by U.S. money and arms.”

Thomas has always had a reputation for being a tough reporter who was not afraid to ask difficult questions to whoever was in power in the White House, questioning Bush policies of extraordinary rendition and torture, as well as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. When she was fired last year after her controversial comments, most of her former colleagues distanced themselves from her, although a few reporters did stand by her.

In the interview with Playboy, Thomas railed against what she called the Zionist lobby in the US, which she claims controls what happens in Congress and the White House. But when confronted about her legacy, and how she will be remembered when she dies, Thomas began crying, saying that the obituary writers would remember her as an anti-Semite, but that would not be an accurate rendering of her life and her beliefs.

When asked how she would like to be remembered, she said, “As the person who asked why. That’s what I want as my epitaph: ‘Why?’ It’s always been my favorite question, even though it rarely gets answered. As I said before, because of what happened recently, people are going to remember me a certain way. The truth is, I don’t hate anybody. I care deeply about people. I care for the poor, the sick, the lame, the harmed, those who’ve been treated unjustly… I’ve always cared about what happens in the world, and I think what the Israelis are doing is wrong. We have to care about our fellow man, and we don’t. Somehow we’ve lost that sense. It’s become almost a sin to care. But we are all God’s children, right?”

• Familiar faces, institutions connected to woman who brought down CIA chief

By Ralph Forbes

The establishment media tells a tangled tale about the scandal that forced the resignation of David H. Petraeus as Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director. However, there are important details that shed new light on the matter compared to what the mainstream media has been reporting.

Many believe the scandal was a set-up designed to bring down the general precisely because he was a highly-placed figure standing in opposition to the push by Israel’s current rulers to engage the United States in a war against Iran.

Although previously a favorite of neoconservative supporters of Israel, Petraeus ended up on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ‘destroy’ list after the general testified before Congress on March 16, 2010, that U.S. interests and Israeli interests are not identical; Israel is a strategic burden, not an asset, to the United States; and Israeli policies endanger the lives of our troops.

The reaction to the candid remarks by Petraeus provides a revealing list of his critics. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.)—a personal friend of Netanyahu and a leading supporter of Israel—was outraged. Foreign Policy, a magazine of the Foreign Policy Association, whined that Petraeus was “hardening” U.S. policy toward Israel. Abe Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, issued a statement condemning Petraeus.

The web that entangled Petraeus also features a similar cast of interconnected individuals and institutions. When Petraeus took command of the troops in Iraq, the Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism at Tufts University—an incubator for counter-terrorist strategies—was cooperating closely with pro-Israeli policy groups such as the Hudson Institute, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Project for the New American Century.

The “other woman” in the Petraeus affair—Paula Broadwell (née Kranz)—just happens to have been deputy director of Jebsen. A West Point graduate, Mrs. Broadwell—a specialist in ‘black ops’—had participated in a summer cadet exchange program in Israel and even lived in a kibbutz.

Notorious for his interest in younger women, Petraeus was a perfect target for a ‘honeypot’ operation. Broadwell insinuated herself into the general’s world by writing a bragging account of his extremely successful career.

The scandal—it seems—was supposed to be unveiled before the election, perhaps intended to prevent President Barack Obama’s reelection, but backstage maneuvering prevented that from happening. However, the result has been that high-level opposition in Washington to Israel’s agenda has certainly been crippled with Petraeus’s ouster.
